Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, England

About Old Harry Rocks

The Old Harry Rocks are three striking chalk formations, including a stack and a stump, located at Handfast Point on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, southern England. These iconic white cliffs mark the easternmost point of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are remnants of a band of chalk that once connected Purbeck to the Isle of Wight, eroded over millennia by the relentless action of the sea. Named, according to legend, after the devil ("Old Harry") himself, or a local pirate, they are a significant landmark, offering dramatic views and insights into geological processes.

Getting there

Old Harry Rocks are not directly accessible by car, so you'll need to park and walk. The most common starting point is Studland village. The best place to park is the National Trust's South Beach Car Park (BH19 3AU) in Studland. It's a paid car park, though National Trust members can park for free. From the car park, follow the signposted footpaths. The walk to Old Harry Rocks is about one mile and takes approximately 20-25 minutes, offering scenic views along the South West Coast Path.
